"HOW DO I GET A PROFESSIONAL
LOOK WITHOUT ALL THE
HASSLE?"
There are many reasons to consider re-painting the trim in your house. Over time, cracks and nicks will begin to appear, and it may start to fade and look dated. You may want to update the colour to something bolder, or you may want a quick and easy refresh if you are looking to put your home on the market.
Trim comes in all shapes and sizes and styles, from the ornate to the simple. Often more attention is paid to the wall colour when it comes to house painting. However, a great many decorative possibilities exist when it comes to trim, and a well-chosen colour can have a lasting impression.
Helps keep mess to a minimum and provides a professional finish.
When painting the trim yourself, there will be a lot of mess & fuss.
The first thing we do is go to your house and measure the trim to see what material is needed. Then we'll show you profile samples for you to decide on, after which we'll order on your behalf.
Once we have the trim in the shop, we'll pre-spray it with a primer. After the primer has cured, our HVLP spray machine gives it a gorgeous, high-velocity, low output finish.
It's the most excellent finish you'll ever see.
After painting the trim is complete, our finishing carpenter will professionally install it.
Trim painting is detail work — and detail is where Master Painting & Renovations excels. Our team handles every type of interior and exterior trim, including baseboards, crown moulding, window casings, door frames, wainscoting, chair rails, and decorative millwork.
We also refinish stair railings and banisters, ceiling beams, built-in shelving, and fireplace mantels. Whether your trim is solid wood, MDF, or PVC, we select the right primer and topcoat to ensure long-lasting adhesion and a smooth, durable finish.
For new-construction trim, our in-house spray shop applies a factory-quality HVLP spray finish before installation. This eliminates brush marks and gives your trim a flawless, furniture-grade appearance that simply cannot be achieved with on-site brush-and-roll methods.
Great trim painting starts with thorough preparation. Our process ensures every piece of trim — whether it's being repainted in place or pre-finished in our spray shop — receives the attention it deserves.
Step 1: Assessment — We inspect your existing trim for damage, peeling, caulk failure, and adhesion issues. We measure all trim that needs replacement and discuss profile options with you.
Step 2: Surface Prep — For on-site work, we clean surfaces, scrape loose paint, sand to create a smooth profile, fill nail holes and dents, and caulk gaps between trim and walls. Proper prep is what separates a professional finish from a DIY one.
Step 3: Priming — We apply a bonding primer suited to the trim material (wood, MDF, or PVC). This ensures the topcoat adheres evenly and lasts for years without chipping.
Step 4: Topcoat Application — On-site trim is carefully brush-painted with premium enamel. Trim that goes through our spray shop receives an HVLP spray finish for a flawless, factory-quality result. We apply two coats minimum for full coverage and durability.
Step 5: Installation & Touch-Up — New spray-finished trim is delivered to your home and professionally installed by our finishing carpenter. Final touch-ups and caulking are completed on site for a seamless look.
Many homeowners assume they need to rip out old trim and start fresh. In most cases, repainting existing trim delivers a like-new appearance at a fraction of the cost. Our painters sand, fill, prime, and topcoat your existing trim — transforming yellowed or chipped surfaces into crisp, clean lines.
If your trim is damaged, warped, or you simply want a new profile style, we can supply and install new trim as well. Either way, every piece passes through our spray shop for that flawless, professional finish before it goes on your wall.
Brush painting is done on site and can leave visible brush strokes, especially on smooth surfaces. Spray painting — which we do in our off-site spray shop — uses a high-volume, low-pressure (HVLP) system that applies an ultra-smooth, even coat with no brush marks. The result looks factory-finished.
The timeline depends on the scope — a single room of baseboards and casings might take a day, while a full-house trim package typically takes 3 to 5 days. New trim that goes through our spray shop is pre-finished before installation, which speeds up the on-site work considerably.
We typically recommend a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish for trim. These sheens are more durable, easier to clean, and create a nice contrast against matte or eggshell walls. For a more modern, understated look, a satin finish also works well on trim surfaces.
Yes. We can colour-match your existing trim using paint samples or digital colour-matching tools available at professional paint stores. If you're updating the look, we're happy to help you choose a new colour that complements your walls and décor.
We do both. Our team can supply, pre-finish, and install brand-new trim — baseboards, crown moulding, casings, and more. We also repaint and refinish existing trim. If you're not sure which option is best, we'll assess the condition of your current trim and make a recommendation.
